Most people will be interested in what someone in specific has to say about you and your invention, your accomplishments, abilities, and background. A letter of recommendation provides a specific, detailed mini-story that people enjoy reviewing. Many people will give more credence to a letter of recommendation depending upon who the writer is, and what the writer has in the way of his own credentials. For example, a letter from your city's mayor about your great public-minded business activities will carry more weight than the president of the local block watch association. But don't discount the potential of the block watch letter, if it's the only thing in your credentials portfolio. Everyone has to start somewhere and every letter will build a path to a bigger and better reference for you and your invention.
